Yellville, Arkansas

Yellville is a city located in Marion County, Arkansas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 1,312. The city is the county seat of Marion County6.

Yellville is named after Archibald Yell who was the first member of the United States House of Representatives from Arkansas, Governor of Arkansas, and who fell in combat at the Battle of Buena Vista in the Mexican War.


Yellville is located at 36°13'47" North, 92°41'7" West (36.229723, -92.685310)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 6.6 km² (2.5 mi²). 6.6 km² (2.5 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,312 people, 535 households, and 356 families residing in the city. The population density is 199.4/km² (515.6/mi²). There are 599 housing units at an average density of 91.1/km² (235.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 97.71% White, 0.00% Black or African American, 0.76% Native American, 0.23% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.22% from two or more races. 0.53% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 535 households out of which 30.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.8% are married couples living together, 15.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.3% are non-families. 30.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 18.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.31 and the average family size is 2.84.

In the city the population is spread out with 24.2% under the age of 18, 9.0% from 18 to 24, 22.3% from 25 to 44, 22.3% from 45 to 64, and 22.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 83.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 79.6 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $26,250, and the median income for a family is $31,793. Males have a median income of $26,000 versus $18,056 for females.
