USS A. Childs

The USS A. Childs was a ship of the United States Navy. Besides her being listed as a ship of the Union Navy during the American Civil War, little is known about this vessel.

At some unknown date, her name was changed from USS A. Childs to simply USS Childs.

On the morning of 11 December, Childs assisted USS Acacia when that tug began taking on water off the coast of Portland, Maine. With the help of the fire deparment, Acacia was brought to safety alongside a wharf.

The hull of Childs was sold at Mound City, Illinois on 29 March 1865 for $1,625.
