Urgent Fury

The name Urgent Fury was given to the American invasion of Grenada on 25 October 1983.

The local government had fallen into the hands of a violent anti-democratic element that had began executing its opponents. The Americans responded with overwhelming force that quickly subdued the small local militia and some Cuban engineer units.

The victory came quickly, but revealed serious shortcomings in American inter-service coordination and planning. Reforms instituted as a result of these problems paid dividends with the invasion of Panama.
