Uppingham School

Uppingham School is an English public school in the small town of Uppingham in Rutland. It was founded in 1584 by Archdeacon Johnson, together with local rival Oakham School. Rev. Edward Thring was the most famous headmaster, 1853-87. Queen Elizabeth II visited the school on the occasion of the Quatercentenary, November 16, 1984. Noted alumni include the professional tenor Toby Spence; geologist Thomas George Bonney; soldier-diplomat Claude Maxwell Macdonald and Richard Lewis Nettleship. On a rather different note, two current UK pop stars - Charlie Simpson (Busted) and Harry Judd (McFly) - were also both educated at Uppingham.
