University of Wyoming

The University of Wyoming, located in Laramie, Wyoming, USA, first opened in September, 1887. It is the only educational institution in Wyoming that offers baccalaureate and graduate education. The University also offers outreach education in counties throughout Wyoming. As of 2002, the University had 12,766 students throughout the state.

The school's mascot is a cowboy, known as Pistol Pete. Men's athletic teams are known as Cowboys, and women's teams are called Cowgirls. Wyoming competes in NCAA Division I athletics (I-A for football) as a member of the Mountain West Conference.
