Uninstaller

Simply, The opposite of installer. It does the opposite of what the installer does. During installation of a software, many changes are done to the file system. So during the uninstallation, the uninstaller removes all the components which were installed. Most of the software vendors ship the uninstaller with their application.

Most commonly found on IBM PCs, as applications tend to leave files in various places on the hard disc, so special software is required to tidy up after them.

Ken Spreitzer, wrote the original PC program called "UnInstaller", first licensed to MicroHelp and now (Feb 1998) sold by CyberMedia.

A good example of a modern uninstaller is Advanced Uninstaller Pro
