Twin City is a city located in Emanuel County, Georgia. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 1,752.


Twin City is located at 32°34'50" North, 82°9'28" West (32.580420, -82.157776)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 9.3 km² (3.6 mi²). 9.3 km² (3.6 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


As of the census of 2000, there are 1,752 people, 545 households, and 390 families residing in the city. The population density is 189.0/km² (489.3/mi²). There are 632 housing units at an average density of 68.2/km² (176.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 45.66% White, 53.60% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.40% from other races, and 0.34% from two or more races. 1.26% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 545 households out of which 39.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.7% are married couples living together, 20.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.3% are non-families. 25.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.65 and the average family size is 3.16.

In the city the population is spread out with 26.1% under the age of 18, 12.0% from 18 to 24, 28.5% from 25 to 44, 19.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 113.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 117.1 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $21,348, and the median income for a family is $24,861. Males have a median income of $23,661 versus $13,370 for females. The per capita income for the city is $9,813. 30.0% of the population and 22.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 28.1% are under the age of 18 and 44.1% are 65 or older.
