Taalo

The Taalo are a fictional race of beings featured in the sci-fi Star Control computer game series.

The Taalo were part of the Sentient Milieu which existet some thirty thousand years ago and spanned half the galaxy. They were one of the 7 known races of the Milieu (the others are the Drall, Faz, Mael-Num, Ur-Quan, Yuli and the Yuptar).

The Taalo were a slow, quiet, silicon-based species that is said to have borne little resemblance, if any, to the Chenjesu. According to an Ur-Quan Kohr-Ah, the Taalo were the only race that the Ur-Quan ever called "friend". The Taalo were the only member of the Sentient Milieu who were able to resist the mental compulsion powers of the Dnyarri and maintain their freedom. This was a mixed blessing though, since the Dnyarri response was to have all the other enslaved races attack the Taalo planet at Delta Vulpecuale 2c, annihilating the Taalo.

Some historians have suggested that just before they were wiped out, the Taalo were near completion of a device which would have conferred their psychic immunity on the other Milieu races. Also, while the Taalo are widely believed to be extinct, the Orz refer to them in the present tense, which suggests that some of the Taalo might still be alive. Then again, this might just be a misunderstanding due to faulty translation of the Orz's complicated language.
