Steve Peregrine Took

'Steve Peregrine Took' was the bongo player and percussionist in Marc Bolan's band Tyrannosaurus Rex from 1967 when they were formed to 1969. He took his name from one of the hobbits in J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings.

He left following a disastrous American tour during which his increasing use of LSD led to more and more erratic behaviour, such as sitting cross-legged on the floor beating himself with a whip during a performance in New York. Peregrine Took choked to death in 1980.
