Real Irish Republican Army

The self-styled 'Real' Irish Republican Army is a paramilitary group and off-shoot of the Provisional IRA, founded after the signing of the 1998 Good Friday (Belfast) Agreement by members of the Provisional IRA opposed to the organisation's 1997 cease fire and acquiescence in the accord.

Real IRA actions have included the notorious 1998 Omagh bombing, as well as a number of relatively minor attacks on the island of Great Britain, including a taxi-bomb attack on the BBC Television Centre in West London, and a rocket propelled grenade attack on the headquarters of MI6.

The Real IRA are distinct from the Continuity IRA, another Provisional IRA splinter group founded in 1986. The 32 County Sovereignty Movement is perceived to be the political 'wing' of the Real IRA.
