Irish Minister for Education

The Minister for Education is the chief person at the Department of Education is engaged in a wide range of activities covering pllicy planning, quality assurance and providing a broad range of services for education in the Republic of Ireland.

In recent years some of these functions have been given to statutory authorities, in particular the Higher Education Authority, the National Qualifications Authority of Ireland and the State Examinations Commission. Irish universities and colleges are to a large extent free of government control, with this been largely limited to policy formation and statistics prepairation.
