Herbert Hugh Munro

Herbert Hugh Munro (1870 -1916) was born in Burma, the son of a police official. After an education in England, he went to Burma to join the police force but was forced to return home due to illness. He began his writing career with The Rise of the Russian Empire (1901) and Not-So-Stories (1902). He became the correspondent for several newspapers as he continued his writing. Joining the army in World War I, he was killed by a sniper. His reported last words were, "Put that damned cigarette out!"

He used the names H.H. Munro and Saki for his work. Many of his works have been published posthumously.
