E. H. Bronner

Dr. Emanuel H. Bronner (1908-1997) was the highly eccentric manufacturer of Dr. Bronner's Soap, a concentrated liquid soap product notable both for the vast amount of lather produced from a few drops and the vast amount of tiny text on its packaging. Although both his parents were killed in the Holocaust, Dr. Bronner believed in the goodness and unity of humanity.

The label text contains a statement of Dr. Bronner's unusual personal philosophy and several suggested uses for the liquid soap, including a contraceptive use. The firm regularly makes donations to charities and charitable individuals.

More than a million bottles of soap (plus bar soap) are hand packed each year in the small, unmechanized factory in Escondido, California. The firm has no sales personnel and does no advertising, but has been the subject of more than 60 published articles.

After Bronner's death, his family continued the business. The company has consistently refused business with larger firms who seek to repackage or relabel their product.
