Corath Damar

Corath Damar is a character in , a Cardassian officer, played by Casey Biggs.

Damar was the apprentice of Gul Dukat for many years, since their first encounter on the Cardassian freighter Groumall, when he was Glin. He had great respect for Dukat and quickly became his most loyal officers, aiding Dukat in waging his private war against the Klingon Empire.

Later Damar served under Dukat again, on Terok Nor during the second Cardassian occupation of Bajor (though Dominion or Cardassian troops never set foot on the planet Bajor, only the station near the wormhole was occupied).

By now, Dukat was the most powerful man in the Cardassian government and personally coordinated every move the Cardassian Union made together with the Dominion Vorta Weyoun. Considering this, Corath Damar was the second-in-command of the Cardassian people.

Dukat's greed for power turned into insanity: He believed he was the Kosst Amojan and released the Pah wraiths into the wormhole before Dukat disappeared. This event made it possible for Damar to become the leader of the Cardassian Union and be promoted to Legate, with the help of the Dominion. And though being concerned about what had happened to his mentor Dukat, he quickly accepted his new rank and the prestige it got him.

But the war was no longer going well and Damar was unhappy about the status of Cardassia. Troops of the Federation alliance had set foot into Cardassian territory and the Dominion was seeking new allies. And they found them in the Breen confining the Cardassians to second class status. By then he wanted nothing more than the end of the so called alliance with the Dominion.

Damar formed a resistance group inside the Cardassian Union and moved swiftly to destroy the Vorta cloning facilites on Rondack III.

Other powerful Guls also switched sides and became vital parts in Damar's resistance, for example Gul Malyn Ocett. She and Damar were the only ones who survived when Gul Revok betrayed the entire resistance movement and played a major role in the switching of sides of the Cardassian fleet in the end of the war.

Damar died as he led a group of resistance fighters and rogue soldiers against the Dominion headquarters on Cardassia Prime. His men captured the Dominion's leader, the Founder, alive and as the Federation's attack on Cardassia Prime began, Odo beamed down onto the surface and persuaded the Founder to let all Dominion troops surrender.

In the eyes of the Cardassian people, the Federation, the Klingon Empire and even the Romulans, he died as a hero.

Damar’s Speech

"Cardassians have never been afraid of war, a fact we've proven time and again over these past two years. 7 million of our brave soldiers have given their lives to fulfill our part of the agreement, and what has the Dominion done in return? Nothing. We've gained no new territories."

"In fact, our influence throughout the Quadrant has diminished. And to make matters worse, we're not even masters in our own home. Travel anywhere in Cardassia and what do you find? Jem'Hadar, Vorta, and now Breen. Instead of the invaders, we have become the invaded. Our allies have conquered us without firing a single shot. Well, no longer."

"This morning, detachments of the Cardassian First, Third, and Ninth Orders attacked Dominion outposts on Rondack 3. This assault marks the first step towards the liberation of our homeland from the true oppressors of the Alpha Quadrant. I call upon Cardassians everywhere - Resist. Resist today. Resist tomorrow. Resist till the last Dominion soldier has been driven from our soil."
