Phylum:Magnoliophyta
Class:Magnoliopsida
Order:Rosales
Family:Rosaceae
Genus:Prunus

The chokecherry, is a shared name for several shrubs and trees carrying a fruit with an astringent taste.

The two most common types of chokecherry it the common chokecherry and the wild black chokecherry, which are found in the eastern parts of north America, especially in the rocky mountains.

The wild chokecherries are often considered a pest as it is a host for the tent caterpillar, a threat to other fruit plants.

However, there are more appreciated species of the chokecherry, the Goertz, for an example, which carries a fruit with non-astringent taste, in other words, excellent for cultivation.

The chokecherry fruits grow in clusters of approximately 20 fruits, with 1 cm diameter each.
