Charlottetown (electoral district)

Charlottetown is the name of a federal electoral district in Prince Edward Island, Canada. Its population is 32,245. (2001) Formed in 2003 previously 96.4% of it was in the riding of Hillsborough.

Ethnic Groups: 97.2% White
Languages: 94.8% English, 2.1% French, 2.5% Other
Religions: 47.7% Catholic, 39.5% Protestant, 2.5% Other Christian, 8.3% No Affiliation

Geography

The district includes the entire City of Charlottetown. The area is 46 sq. km.

History

The electoral district was created in 2003 Mostly form Hillsbourough, but with 3.6% from Malpeque. The riding has yet to experience its first election. The incumbent will be Shawn Murphy of the Liberal Party of Canada. Before that the riding of Hillsborough was held by Liberal George Proud from 1988 until 2000.
