Chalazion

A chalazion is a lump in the eyelid that is caused by inflammation of a gland within the eyelid. Patients with chalazions usually present with a painful lump in their eyelid that has been there for several days.

In treating chalazions, warm compresses with cloth soaked in clean, warm water may be useful. Antibiotic eyedrops or ointments may be prescribed if the inflammation is likely to be bacterial in origin or if the risk of secondary infection is thought to be significant.
