  • In a legal transaction, an act is a written document that attests the legality of the transaction. In this sense, very ancient acts from the Babylonian period carved on clay tablets in cuneiform writing have been found. Such an act also attests the legality of a pact or the peace after an armed conflict or war.
  • In a legislature, an act (Act) is a statute passed by legislature, or a planned statute that legislature has not yet enacted. Before being enacted the act is called a bill. After it has been enacted it becomes law.
