10 Things I Hate About You

10 Things I Hate About You is a 1999 film directed by Gil Junger and starring Heath Ledger, Julia Stiles, and Larisa Oleynik. An adaptation of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew, 10 Things is set in a modern-day California high school; as a consequence, numerous script changes were necessary (for instance, the conflict is about dating, rather than marriage).

Although 10 Things makes no explicit mention of Shakespeare even in the film's credits, subtler references are many: for instance, Katarina and Bianca's last name is Stratford, and Patrick's is Verona. Even the film's title is an assonant play on Shakespeare's original phrasing ("Ten Things" => "Taming", and "You" => "Shrew").
